What a Class 4 MOT checks

A Class 4 MOT covers all the essential safety and emissions areas of your vehicle, including brakes, suspension, tyres, lights, steering, seatbelts, and the exhaust system. Each area is checked thoroughly and fairly against DVSA standards, so a pass genuinely means the car is roadworthy rather than just ticking a box.

What happens if your car fails

When to book your MOT

Your MOT is due annually once the car is three years old, and you can book it up to a month before the current certificate expires without losing any time on the new one. Booking ahead of the expiry date also means you’ve got a buffer if any work turns out to be needed, rather than discovering it the day the old certificate runs out.

MOT testing checks a lot of the same areas covered in a full service, so booking them together can save you a second visit if both are due around the same time.

I cannot recommend this garage highly enough. My situation was a bit of a nightmare: I was told by the police that I needed an MOT (not just sign-off by garage to say plates had been changed) because they deemed my number plates "illegal."

When I took the car in, the team here could have easily just performed the MOT and taken my money. Instead, they showed incredible integrity. They assured me that an MOT wasn't actually required for that specific issue, provided me with a printout of the official government guidance to prove it, and even signed it for me.

Unfortunately, the police wouldn't back down and insisted on the MOT anyway, despite it not being the correct procedure. When I returned to the garage, the staff were incredibly sympathetic to the runaround I was getting. They didn't make me wait or feel like a nuisance; they sorted me out quickly and professionally to help me get the paperwork finalized.

It’s rare to find a business that puts honesty and customer care above a quick profit. Top-tier people and top-tier service. If you want a garage you can actually trust, this is the place.

I booked a MOT and major service through AA’s trusted garage service and found out my car had failed it’s MOT and received a quote from AA for £450. I called the garage to query this, and asked for someone to talk me through the quote. Steve offered to provide a quote for the garage to complete the works instead of carrying out the same works for the price AA had quoted me for, and saved me £200! All staff were really helpful and kind when I called them up, and my car was left safely parked outside my house when all the works were completed as I was out of the area. I've visited this garage multiple times for various MOTs and repairs over the last 4 years and I'm always met with professional service and honest advice. I've known the guys at the garage to get my car sorted before closing to avoid me being without the car the day after, and even do some minor jobs for no fee. My go to place in Gateshead for any car trouble.
