MOT Testing at North East Auto Services
North East Auto Services is authorised to carry out Class 4, Class 5, Class 7, and Motorhome MOTs, covering cars, small vans, minibuses, heavier commercial vehicles, and motorhomes. Every test is carried out by DVSA-approved testers to AA and RAC approved standards, whichever class your vehicle needs.
Class 4 is the standard MOT for cars and small vans, and it’s available at every North East Auto Services branch. Testers check brakes, lights, tyres, steering, suspension, and emissions, along with the other essential safety areas the DVSA requires, so a pass genuinely means the vehicle is roadworthy.
Class 7 covers vans and light commercial vehicles between 3,000kg and 3,500kg design gross weight. Testing vehicles this size properly needs larger ramps and bays than a standard Class 4 test, so it isn’t offered at every garage. We carry out Class 7 testing at our Peterlee, Stockton-on-Tees, and Chester-le-Street branches.
Class 5 applies to minibuses and other vehicles carrying more than 12 passengers. It’s a more specialised test, and currently only our Peterlee branch is set up to carry it out.
Motorhomes need an MOT the same as any other vehicle, but testing one properly needs the space and equipment to handle a larger, heavier vehicle. Our Peterlee, Stockton-on-Tees, and Chester-le-Street branches are equipped for motorhome testing, so it’s worth booking at one of these three rather than assuming any branch can take it.
If you’re not sure which class your vehicle falls under, or which of our branches can test it, get in touch and we’ll check for you and point you to the right site before you book. This matters most if you’re bringing in a heavier van, a minibus, or a motorhome, since not every branch is equipped for those.
An MOT is a legal safety check that all vehicles over three years old must have once a year. At North East Auto Services, our DVSA-approved testers inspect your vehicle’s key safety features, including brakes, lights, tyres, steering, suspension, and emissions, to make sure it’s safe and road legal.
Most cars and small vans need a Class 4 MOT, available at every branch. Vans and light commercial vehicles between 3,000kg and 3,500kg need a Class 7 MOT, available at Peterlee, Stockton-on-Tees, and Chester-le-Street. Minibuses carrying more than 8 passengers need a Class 5 MOT, currently only available at Peterlee. If you’re not sure, tell us your vehicle when you book and we’ll confirm the right class and branch.
Yes, motorhome MOTs are available at our Peterlee, Stockton-on-Tees, and Chester-le-Street branches, which have the space and equipment to test larger vehicles properly.
No, it’s illegal to drive a vehicle on public roads without a valid MOT (unless you’re driving it to a pre-booked MOT test). Driving without one can result in a fine, penalty points, and your insurance becoming invalid.
You can book your MOT up to one month minus a day before it’s due and then keep the same renewal date for the following year. For example, if your MOT expires on 20th July, you can have it tested as early as 21st June and still keep the 20th July renewal date.
If your vehicle fails, our testers will give you a failure certificate explaining what needs to be fixed. We can usually carry out the repairs on site and offer a free retest within 10 working days, helping you get back on the road quickly and legally.
A typical MOT test takes around 45–60 minutes. You’re welcome to wait in our comfortable reception area at any of our branches with free Wi-Fi and refreshments while we complete the test.
